Extrinsic factors influencing the yield stress anomaly of Al-rich γ-TiAl

Abstract

The influence of a pre-anneal on the yield stress peak of Al-rich γ-TiAl is demonstrated by arranging the available experimental data according to sample thermal history. The analysis is complemented by dedicated deformation tests and by microstructural observations. It is shown that mechanical properties may be markedly obscured by precipitation of interstitial atoms and to a lesser extent, by the Ti₃Al₅ short-range ordered phase.
