Abstract
C60 crystals were deformed at 295 K. The stress-strain curves show a behaviour similar to that typical of fcc metals. The yield stress is about 0.7 MPa. Slip lines were observed by optical microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Their maximum step height is about 1600 nm at 24% strain. It is suggested that the dislocation multiplication in C60 crystals is mainly controlled by a Frank–Read source mechanism.
