The glide plane of dislocations in zinc sulphide

Abstract

Plastic deformation of ZnS crystals occurs by slip on (111) planes and is accompanied by a current due to the motion of charged dislocations. By determining the sign of this current in crystals of known absolute orientation it is shown that dislocations glide between planes with a B-type stacking and not between those with Aa-type stacking as is traditionally assumed.
