Computer simulation of the drift mobility of an ionic impurity in an electric field

Abstract

A Monte Carlo method is used to simulate the drift of an ionic impurity in an electric field. Application is made to impurity diffusion via the agency of a vacancy in the face-centred-cubic lattice. The calculation is couched in terms of the five-frequency model of Manning (1964, 1965). The computer simulation results for the drift distance are found to be in excellent agreement with the predictions of the equation derived analytically by Manning.
