Theoretical relationship between free energy and dislocation cell diameter during creep

Pages 829-832 | Received 14 Nov 1978, Accepted 14 Jan 1979, Published online: 27 Sep 2006

Abstract

During creep, characteristic cells, outlined by dislocations, often form in metala. It is shown theoretically that this is to be expected, since the free energy of the specimen passes through a well-defined minimum for a certain cell size.
