The influence of solute drag on dislocation creep

Pages 607-616 | Received 23 Dec 1981, Accepted 04 Jun 1982, Published online: 13 Sep 2006

Abstract

The dislocation network model of creep (Burton 1981a) is extended to include the effects of solute atmosphere drag on alloy behaviour. Criteria for the well-established A-type and M-type of alloy behaviour are developed and the parametric dependence of creep rate in each regime is predicted. It is also shown that several transitions can occur in the stress exponent for creep in alloy systems where the solute drag limited dislocation mobility lies between the climb mobility controlled by lattice diffusion and that controlled by pipe diffusion.
