Abstract
An analysis is made of the observed rise in the specific heat of solid gallium near its melting point in terms of surface melting. For this purpose a modified model originally proposed by Kristensen and Cotterill (1977) is applied to the data. Values for the liquid surface layer thickness are given. The parameters observed are discussed for their physical relevance.
