Abstract
A model for the effect of grain size on the yield stress of metals presented by Meyers and Ashworth (1982) is criticized. It is argued that the calculated stress concentrations arising from elastic incompatibility of both grains are insufficient to account for dislocation generation from grain boundaries unless grain boundary sliding in a grain boundary with a step occurs.
