Abstract

The dislocation arrangement in plastically deformed α-Fe single crystals using two different orientations of the tensile axis has been investigated by means of magnetic small-angle scattering of neutrons near ferromagnetic saturation. From the intensity and anistropy of the magnetic scattering cross-section it is concluded that long-range stresses exist that are due to groups of 10–13 dislocations. In crystals with orientations in the middle of the crystallographic triangle, dislocations of the primary and the conjugate glide system were mainly found, both types forming dislocation groups. In a crystal oriented near to the [001–[011] zone an appreciable density of dislocations with a Burgers vector b = [010] was ′also detected. These presumably result from reactions between primary dislocations (b=½[111]) with secondary dislocations (b=½[111]).
