Abstract

Multiply twinned particles of face-centred cubic metals having decahedral or icosahedral forms generally grow from suitably shaped nuclei. However structural and statistical evidence based on transmission electron microscopy observations suggests that the decahedral form can arise in electrodeposited nickel by a process of repeated twinning.
