Abstract

A detailed Doppler-broadening positron annihilation study has been conducted on bulk copper samples containing 3 at.% Kr in the form of a high concentration of small bubbles containing krypton in the solid phase. The response of the lineshape parameter F to the annealing of this substructure has been followed over the temperature range 80-940 K; clear effects were seen corresponding to the melting of the krypton and growth of the bubbles at 580 K. Deconvolution of the annihilation lineshape into its three components provides some evidence that the positron is trapped within the bubbles at the Cu-Kr interface.
