On the configuration of superlattice dislocation pairs in the ordered L12 structure

Abstract

Habit plane normals of superdislocation pairs cutting through the L12 γ′ phase of a single-crystal Ni-based superalloy at 1253 K were determined by transmission electron microscopy techniques. Isotropic elastic theory was used to calculate the minimum of elastic interaction energy between the dislocations of a pair as function of their character and of the orientation of the habit planes. The habit planes observed are in excellent agreement with these calculations.
