This paper describes in situ deformation tests on thin foils of niobium and an alloy. The results show that, even with the thick foils used in high volume electron microscopy, surface effects still play a major role. Some movement of dislocations on the anomalous plane was observed and the results provide support for a mechanism of anomalous slip suggested previously.
