Abstract

To examine systematically the boundary-dependent capability of grain-boundary sliding, the internal friction has been measured using orientation-controlled bicrystal specimens of copper with various [001] twist boundaries. The experimental data are analysed by regarding that grain boundaries slide in a viscous manner with inherent viscosity η. It is found that higher-energy boundaries are more susceptible to grain-boundary sliding and have a lower viscosity.
