Abstract
Temperature dependence of the yield stress governed by the Peierls mechanism of narrowly dissociated dislocations has been considered in the smooth kink regime. A plateau region is expected to appear in the τy‐T curve between low and high–temperature regions; the low temperature and plateau regions being controlled by uncorrelated kink–pair formation on partial dislocations and the high–temperature region by correlated kink–pair formation on two partials. Temperature dependence of the yield stress in some intermetallic compounds that exhibit a plateau may be interpreted by this mechanism.
