Abstract

Stress modifications are calculated at a free surface-interface intersection of a strained layer in a matrix when the interface is broadened by thermal diffusion or by ion mixing. The results show that this broadening induces a stress relaxation that delays the growth of interface cracks and increases the adhesion.
