On the solubility of carbon in b.c.c. transition metals

Pages 527-530 | Received 09 Nov 1977, Published online: 20 Aug 2006

Abstract

The relative partial molar enthalpies of carbon in b.c.c. metals belonging to the first long period of the periodic table are given in terms of the electronic structure of the alloys. The calculation shows that the solubility of carbon decreases from titanium through iron when a self-consistent shift of the resonant state is taken into account.
