Solar heat gains using micro-computer programs: technical note

Pages 25-30 | Published online: 30 Mar 2011

SYNOPSIS

This paper describes two microcomputer programs which have been specially developed to simplify the calculation of solar heat gain and maximum air-chilling load in buildings. Examples of their use are given to illustrate some typical results.

A feature of both programs is that although the mathematical derivations are extremely involved, the user is totally unaware of this. Simple questions are asked requiring very simple answers. No knowledge of either computing or the subject matter is required, which means that the calculations can be carried out by a relatively unskilled operative.
