Abstract
The rapid intensification of transportation and industrialisation sectors results in greater depletion of fossil fuel resources and environmental contamination. The exploit of biodiesel is environment-friendly, economic and largely available fuel resource. The present investigation has been undertaken to study the compatibility of novel tamarind seed methyl ester (TSME) and their blend with antioxidant additive of butylated hydroxyl anisole at various concentrations such as 1000 and 2000 ppm additions to exploit the diverse characteristics of diesel engine. The antioxidant additive is dispersed evenly in the tamarind biodiesel with the help of Ultrasonicator. The test results have shown 1.79% enhancement in brake thermal efficiency and 23.32% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions when contrasted with TSME 20 at full load. Overall, it is concluded that tamarind biodiesel blend with antioxidant additive shown a positive impact on diesel engine characteristics.
