Abstract

In the present study, thermal analysis of two heat exchangers, namely a shell and wire coil-inserted helical coil tube heat exchanger and a shell and without wire coil-inserted helical coil tube heat exchanger (HCTHE), was investigated experimentally. The hot water (coil side), taken as a working fluid, flows in the range of 1 L/min to 3 L/min at 50°C, 60°C and 70°C each. The cold water (at 25°C) flows on shell side at a volume flow rate of 3 L/min throughout this experiment. The average heat transfer rate was approximately 13% higher for the shell and wire coil-inserted HCTHE than that for the shell without wire coil-inserted HCTHE at the volume flow rate of 3 L/min and the hot water inlet temperature of 70°C. The comparative study found 10.47% more effectiveness with shell and wire coil-inserted HCTHE.
