Abstract

Fixed displacement gerotor oil pumps are widely used in the IC engine lubrication system due to their simple geometry and low cost. As the future focuses on decreasing the power consumption of oil pumps as a major criterion, a series of advancements are made in the fixed displacement gerotor oil pumps for the last five decades. In this review paper those advancements are captured into six major categories: 1. Profile and its effects, 2. Effect of tip-to-tip/ tip/teeth clearance, axial/face to face and radial clearances, 3. Effects of porting and relief groove, 4.1D Analysis for Gerotor pump, 5. Gerotor and CFD usage, 6. Gerotor and its Technology. All these categories are explained in detail with chronological order with their merits and demerits to their respective categories. This survey about fixed displacement gerotor oil pumps helps the researchers in this same filed to improve their research further.
