Abstract
Multipolarization radar systems determine the scattering matrix associated with each element of the image to be constructed. Ways in which this information can be used to enhance radar images are reviewed, either by suppressing background noise or by enhancing features with known polarization signature. An imaging quantity designed to facilitate the recognition of such signatures is proposed. The elegance and convenience which can be achieved by concentrating on the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the scattering matrix are emphasized.
