On the. intercomparison of satellite and ground-based obseirvations of prevailing cloud types over Athens

Abstract

A simple method for estimating the frequencies of prevalence of various cloud types from their corresponding frequencies of occurrence and their 'amount when present' is proposed. The method is applied in the Athens area, where direct surface based observations of prevailing cloud types are compared with those derived from the proposed method.
