The impact of Minitel technology on road freight transport management in France

This paper describes the impact of new information technologies on road freight transport in France. In particular it studies videotex technology which is developing quickly in the country. French videotex technology links computer, telecommunication (telephone) and television technologies. It is embodied in the Minitel terminal. This new technology has important effects on the management of information needed by companies for their productive activities. So, the study of Minitelized road freight information requires some preliminary description of the French computerized information system, the French videotex system and the Minitel terminals. The paper first considers the rise of the new information technology (essentially linked with the computerization of economic activities); it describes Minitel, its place in the French videotex system and its impact and growth as a specific sector in the French information economy. It then studies applications of Minitelized information by road freight transport companies.

A l'aide de quelques exemples, cet article montre l'impact des nouvelles technologies de l'information sur le transport routier de marchandises en France. On étudie particulièrement la technologie du Videotext qui se développe rapidement. Cette technologie combine l'ordinateur, les télécommunications et la télévision et est représentée par le terminal Minitel. Cette nouvelle technologie se répercute sur la gestion de l'information nécessaire aux entreprises pour réaliser leur activité. L'étude de l'information minitélisée dans les transport de marchandises commence par une explication concernant le système informatique français, ainsi que les système du Videotext et du terminal Minitel. Premièrement, nous étudierons les éléments suivants: la croissance de la technologie de l'information (liée pour l'essentiel à l'informatisation de l'économie), la description du Minitel, la place de celui‐ci dans le système de Videotext français, l'impact et la croissance du Minitel comme secteur spécifique de l'économie de l'information en France. Deuxièment, nous étudierons les applications de l'information minitélisée dans les entreprises de transport routier de marchandises.

Dieser Artikel beschreibt den Einfluß neuer Informations‐Technologien auf den Straßengüterverkehr in Frankreich. Insbesondere wird die Videotext‐Technologie untersucht, die sich im Lande rasch entwickelt. Die französische Videotext‐Techonologie vereint Computer‐, Telekommunikations‐ (Telefon‐) und Fernseh‐Technologien miteinander. Dieses ist im Minitel‐Terminal vereinigt. Diese neue Technologie wirkt sich in besonderer Weise auf die Verarbeitung von Informationen aus, die von Unternehmen für ihre Leistungserbringung benötigt werden. Die Untersuchung über Straßengüterinformationen auf der Basis von MINITEL erfordert zunächst eine einleitende Beschreibung über das französische computerunterstützte Informationssystem, über das Videotext System und über die MINITEL‐Terminals. Zuerst wird in dem Artikel das Entstehen der neuen Informationstechnologie (wesentlich verknüpt mit dem Durchdringen der Wirtschaft durch den Computer) beleuchtet; es wird dann MINITEL, sein Platz im französischen Videotext‐System und sein Einfluß und sein Wachstum als spezifischer Sektor in der französischen Informationswirtschaft beschrieben. Danach werden die Anwendungen MINITEL‐gestützter Informationen durch die Unternehmen des Straßengüterverkehrs untersucht.

Por intermedio de algunos ejemplos este articulo trata de mostrar el impacto de algunos avances en informática sobre el transporte caminero de carga en Francia. Se estudia en particular la tecnología del videotexto, de rápido desarrollo en el país; este sistema, que se basa en el computador, las telecomunicaciones (teléfono) y la televisión, está encarnado en el sistema Minitel y tiene fuerte influencia en la gestión de la información requerida por las empresas de transporte. El trabajo entrega algunas explicaciones preliminares sobre el sistema francés de información por computador, el sistema de videotexto y el terminal Minitel. Primeramente se considera el crecimiento de nuevas tecnologías de la información (ligadas principalmente a la computación de las actividades económicas), se describe el Minitel y su lugar en el sistema de videotexto francés, y se analiza el impacto y crecimiento de la ‘minitelisación’ como sector independiente de la informática en la economía francesa. En segundo lugar se estudian aplicaciones de la información minitelisada sobre las empresas de transporte caminero de carga.
