Global driver information systems: a European concept

Abstract

Within the scope of the CEC programme DRIVE I an international consortium consisting of seven European partners worked on project V1024 ‘Driver Information Systems’ DIS. The goal of the project was to specify the integration of existing systems into a comprehensive DIS operating across Europe, to determine various kinds of requirements, to investigate and develop a system architecture and to define recommendations for pan‐European in‐vehicle information systems. The work, which was finalized in late 1991, led to the preparation of a Handbook. The contents of this Handbook, i.e. the project's results, are the subject of this paper.

Dans le cadre du programme DRIVE I des Communautés Européennes, figurait un projet, numéroté VI024 et initulé ‘Les systèmes d'information du conducteur'; il a été proposé et réalisé par un consortium de sept partenaires européens. Son objectif était d'intégrer les divers projets existants en un système global d'information du conducteur, fonctionnant dans toute l'Europe. Il fallait pour cela déterminer les types de besoins, étudier et développer une architecture de système et formuler des recommandations pour la réalisation d'un système pan‐européen d'information dans le véhicule. Le travail, achevé à la fin de 1991, s'est terminé par la réalisation d'un manuel, dont le contenu est décrit dans l'article.

Im Rahmen des EG‐Programms DRIVE I arbeitete ein aus 7 europäischen Partnern bestehendes internationales Konsortium an dem Projekt V1024 Driver Information Systems (DIS). Ziel dieses Projekts war, die Integration bestehender Systeme in ein europaweit betriebenes Fahrerinformationssystem zu spezifizieren, die unterschiedlichen Anforderungen herauszuarbeiten, eine geeignete Systemarchitektur zu entwickeln sowie Empfehlungen für europaweit betriebene Fahrerinformationssysteme zu formulieren. Die Arbeiten, die Ende 1991 beendet wurden, führten zur Erstellung eines Handbuchs. Der Inhalt dieses Handbuchs, d.h. die Projektergebnisse, sind Gegenstand dieses Papiers.

En el ámbito del programa DRIVE I de la CEE, un consorcio internacional formado por siete instituciones europeas trabajó en el proyecto V1024 ‘Sistemas de Información al Conductor’ (SIC). El objetivo del proyecto era realizar la especificación para la integración de los sistemas existentes en un gran sistema SIC conjunto, que operara en toda Europa; esto incluyó la determinación de los diversos tipos de requerimientos, la investigación y desarrollo sobre la arquitectura del sistema y la definición de recomendaciones para sistemas de información en el vehículo a nivel pan‐europeo. El trabajo, que terminó a fines de 1991, culminó la preparación de un Manual cuyo contenido (los resultados del proyecto) se resume en este artículo.
