Current bibliography of garden history

Pages 62-84 | Published online: 30 Apr 2012

Abstract

This is the third Current Bibliography published by the Journal oj Garden History. As in the previous years its aim is to provide a comprehensive coverage of British publications listed in the British National Bibliography between January 1984 and January 1985. This material is supplemented by the scanning of the Art Index, the Répertoire d'art et d' archeologie, RILA and a large number of periodicals. This year an index to the periodicals listed has been added. As in the past the Bibliography has been made possible by the generous help of those foreign correspondents who have become faithful and reliable friends, they are Carmen Anon Feliu (Spain), Carol Bondhus Fitzgerald (USA), Sabine Eiche (Italy), Carla Oldenburger-Ebbers and Liesbeth Missel (The Netherlands), Matthias Quast (Germany and Austria), Eeva Ruoff (Switzerland). The wide network of correspondents that we had originally hoped to establish has not yet materialized, despite our attempts at establishing contacts with various international institutions. The Bibliography can become more precise and more wideranging, both in terms of subjects and geographical areas covered, only if we can get as much and as varied support as possible. Ideally it should also provide a means for gathering together published material, in the form of journals or offprints. Matthias Quast has established an exchange between two libraries in West and East Germany; this is not only a great personal success but should become the aim of all of us interested in the exchange of knowledge and information. The format and arrangement of the Bibliography follow the one reproduced in the third issue of Vol. 2 (July-September 1982), pp. 293–296. Crossreferences are provided wherever relevant. All entries preceded by a star (*) are inserted to update 1984's Bibliography.
