A Redouté treasury: 468 Watercolours from ‘Les Liliacées‘ of Pierre-joseph Redouté

Abstract

For those of us who know Redouté's Les Liliacees only from engravings, this is a very welcome book. The watercolours from which the prints were originally made have only been seen once in public (in 1985), and then only briefly, before their auction in New York. Nor will they be seen again, for the successful $5·5 million bid was by members of a syndicate, and the paintings have now been dispersed.
