Pages 503-524 | Published online: 12 May 2010

Abstract

The relative importance of clinically therapeutic constituents of plants is influenced by several factors, such as plant availability, traditional use, communication networks, and community preference. This paper outlines the relevance of medicinal plant use to hypertension therapy and the influence of village preference upon reported plant frequencies among a group of sugar cane field workers on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts.
