Research in improving self‐concept in the basic course: Review and recommendations

Pages 49-52 | Published online: 21 May 2009

Abstract

Analysis of current research suggests that there is little evidence to prove that the basic speech course improves the student's self‐concept as a speaker. Future research should consider the factors of: (1) general tendency of self‐concept to change, (2) differences betwen male and female self‐concept, (3) individual differences in direction of change, (4) effects of reward, and, (5) possible variability among measures of self‐concept.
