Abstract
This essay examines how Richard M. Nixon and George McGovern, presidential candidates in 1972, adapted their campaign rhetoric to women's issues. Whereas Nixon stood on his record of past achievements in the area of women's rights and did not seek to reach feminists, McGovern sought their support.
