The effects of imperial patronage on the rhetorical tradition of the Athenian second sophistic

Literary, historical, epigraphical, and archaeological evidence provides strong support for the argument that the endowment of individual sophists and cultural building programs by Roman patrons was the critical factor in sustaining the rhetorical tradition of the Athenian Second Sophistic.
