Pages 3-12 | Published online: 21 May 2009

Abstract

These interviews reveal the television advertising techniques and the rationale for the methods used during the 1980 presidential election campaign. Each of the media coordinators ‐ Peter Daily for the Reagan campaign and Gerald Rafshoon for the Carter campaign ‐ directed campaigns that spent around $18 million. These interviews provide insight into what was communicated through television advertising by the Reagan and Carter campaigns and why.
