Abstract

This essay reviews the major literature on employment interviewing toward improving our understanding of (1) the nature of the interviewing situation; (2) the reliability of the employment interviewing process; (3) the characteristics associated with favorable employment decisions; and (4) the potential for future research by communication scholars. We conclude with the need for a view of the employment interview as part of a process of organizational behavior which begins with the nature of the hiring decision.
