Disclosure as a disability‐management strategy: A review and conclusions

Pages 196-202 | Published online: 21 May 2009

Abstract

This study reviews research which has examined the effect of disclosing information about a disability on interaction between handicapped and nonhandicapped persons. The studies indicate that communicating about the disability makes participants more comfortable and makes the handicapped person more preferred as a partner. This is particularly true when the handicapped person appears to be coping with the disability.
