Creating a supportive climate for teacher growth: Developing graduate students as teachers

This article presents several fundamental principles of teacher training which grew from a case study of a successful orientation and training program for graduate teaching assistants at a large mid‐western university. Instructional strategies, observational methods, and evaluative procedures are discussed. A supportive climate is highlighted as a critical component of an effective training program.
