Research and the social world: Honoring the connections

A critical evaluation of recent research in the area of group communication suggests three objectives to guide future studies: (1) focus on communication as a substantive, formative activity in its own right, (2) respond to human issues and problems characterizing the world beyond the ivory tower, and (3) develops research designs and methods that are compatible with the recommended conceptual foci.
