Abstract
A. Masterman King is a rare enigma: a teacher who entertains and educates, a colleague who stimulates with a unique gift for pointed verbal cartooning. Undergraduates flocked to lectures on the models of wisdom and eloquence and met a teacher who is himself a model. Graduates have a friend who gives unstintingly to develop each student's individual skills. Andrew King is a teacher‐scholar whose work embodies Quintilian's precept: “study is cheered by nothing more than hope.”
