Abstract

Chelation ion chromatography of metal ions on DMSO impregnated silica gel-G layers in ether; DMSO: 1M HNO3 (1:1); n-butanol: acetone: HNO3 (6:6:1) and di-isopropyl ether: DMSO: THF systems having varying compositions, was performed. The zero Rf for a number of cations is explained in terms of precipitation and strong adsorption. It was possible to separate Cd2+, W6+, Zr4+, Zn2+ and VO2+ from numerous metal ions. A number of analytically important binary and ternary separations were also achieved and were found useful in synthetic alloy analysis.
