Abstract

Cyanobacteria are promising candidates for biofertilizer which is environmentally and economically friendly. Herein, we, for the first time reported the cyanobacterial population study in the wetland paddy field of North Vanlaiphai, Mizoram. Ten cyanobacterial strains from our study sites belonging to six genera (Fischerella, Scytonema, Calothrix, Nostoc, Anabaena and Westiellopsis) were isolated and characterized by morphological and molecular analyses. The morphological observation was congruent with their phylogenetic analyses based on 16SrRNA gene sequences and RAPD.
