The Transatlantic Way Ahead: U.S. Readiness Problems Show Why European Capabilities Will Be So Important

Pages 271-276 | Published online: 11 Nov 2010

Abstract

Europe's burden for the future will be to stabilize America's position as the world's only "superpower" by investing in its own military strength. America has to enter into conflicts, especially in Europe, in which it would not engage normally, because its European counterparts are too weak. Such commitments beyond pure American national interest leave the U.S. with numerous negative consequences, demonstrated in the current state of the U.S. Air Force.
