Comment on “Soviet economic problems and technological opportunities”

Pages 297-305 | Published online: 24 Sep 2007

Abstract

Historically, decision makers in the Soviet Union have been faced with a choice between increased political control and accelerated economic development. This paper uses graphic economic analysis to clarify the nature of this trade‐off and the possibility that the Soviets may be able to take advantage of the potential of applied technology in the economy, thus accelerating economic growth with a marginal, acceptable sacrifice in the area of political control.
