Steps toward global air defenses

Pages 299-305 | Published online: 24 Sep 2007

Abstract

Defenses against aircraft and cruise missiles are a logical adjunct to defenses against ballistic missiles. Developed technologies could support air defenses complementary to limited missile defenses that would be effective against reduced threats. While effective missile defenses should shift emphasis back to aircraft and cruise missiles, technologies in development should be appropriate for projected threats. International development could improve the performance of defenses and lessen the risks and consequences of errors.
