ABSTRACT

The dispersion of metal oxide nanoparticles by pneumatic atomization of oxide suspensions has rarely been used in laboratory-scale research on electrostatic precipitation, due to the insolubility of the oxides under ambient conditions, the particle agglomeration and sedimentation in aqueous mixtures. Therefore, the aim of this work was to evaluate the performance of a wire-plate electrostatic precipitator in the collection of NiO nanoparticles produced by nebulization of suspensions pretreated with ultrasonic bath, which resulted in reproducible aerosol concentrations and particle size distributions. Increase of the voltage and decrease of the gas flow rate improved the charging and collection efficiencies.
