ABSTRACT

The presence of micron size Quinoline Insolubles degrades the quality of coal tar and restricts its usage in high-end applications. In the present study, Quinoline Insolubles in the coal tar are removed by centrifugation process. Studies were carried out with different wash oils, organic and mixed solvents. Removal of Quinoline Insolubles from coal tar is 88% at 60–70°C with 15% wash oil dosage at an optimized time of 5 mins and 4500 rpm. Removal of Quinoline Insolubles from coal tar is 89% with 9% dosage of mixed solvent at an optimized time of 15 mins and 4500 rpm.
