ABSTRACT

Weak basic guanidinium acetylacetonate ([TMG][acac]) was synthesized and blended with PEG200 to construct hybrid absorbent for SO2. The composition was optimized on the basis of viscosity and SO2 absorption performance. For the preferred 20% [TMG][acac]-PEG200 mixture, the effect of various parameters were systematically investigated. Results showed that the maximum mass ratio of SO2 to [TMG][acac] was 0.838 and 0.331 at 30°C for pure and 10% SO2, respectively. The mixture was easily recycled five times. The present SO2 capture process using [TMG][acac]-PEG200 mixtures was a promising method for SO2 removal with both good reversibility and high absorption capacity.
