* All reviews of books for backward readers will in future appear in the form set out above. Information covers all aspects of the books likely to be of interest to the teacher when making a selection for her class. R.A. (reading age) is the approximate reading difficulty level of the book; I.A. the interest range. Prices given are Australian retail and may vary slightly from state to state.

The books are classified for printing as “excellent”, “good”, or “fair” 10 pt. is the type size of “The Slow Learning Child” text; side headings in the Journal are in 12 pt. type and authors’ names are in 8 pt.

"Controlled” vocabulary indicates a severe limitation of new words with regard to word frequency, with carefully controlled repetition and grading of words. “Restricted” vocabulary indicates that the author has used a simple and limited vocabulary without, however, detailed control in respect to numbers of new words and repetition.
