External studies in undergraduate physics: self‐paced learning with laboratory kits

Abstract

Alternative approaches to the provision of experimental experience within an external course in undergraduate physics are reviewed. The use of kits of laboratory equipment for home use is illustrated in the context of a course which has now been running successfully for five years at Murdoch University in Western Australia.
