1. STRONG (Struggling To Reunite Our New Generation) is a gang-prevention and intervention program dedicated to reducing gang violence, assisting youths who are entering the community after incarceration, empowering youths to become active participants in community affairs, promoting community pride, and serving as a mediator between youths and community systems and institutions.
2. The author (editor-in-chief of this journal) is also the executive director of North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center in Roslyn Heights, NY, a children's mental health agency that lost chemical dependency and mental health treatment funding as the result of the budget cuts.
3. Rahsmia Zatar is executive director of STRONG Youth Inc.; Sergio Argueta is founder and board chair of STRONG and adjunct professor and director of the Adelphi University School of Social Work undergraduate program.
