ABSTRACT

Charles D. Garvin, PhD, professor emeritus of social work at the University of Michigan, was the first president of the International Association of Social Work with Groups (IASWG). He continues to serve as a lifetime member of the IASWG Board of Directors and as a member of the Practice Committee. This profile of Garvin’s early career is based on an oral history interview with Robert M. Ortega at the University of Michigan School of Social Work in April 2022. Garvin’s lifelong contributions to social work with groups have been guided by his commitment to social justice.
