Abstract
The purpose of the study was to test the reproducibility and scalability of a modified version of the Reiss Premarital Sexual Permissiveness scale. The scale was modified for 13-14 year olds and was used to measure the effects of a sex education course on premarital sexual permissiveness.
Results indicated a significant increase in premarital sexual permissiveness scores after the course compared to pre course measurements. Analysis of subscales showed that the students only became more accepting of sexual behavior when the couple was in love or engaged to be married, i.e., commitment to a relationship.
If sex education is to prove itself worthwhile, evaluation to measure the effects of such courses is essential. Research is needed to develop standardized measures to facilitate this evaluation.
